Our goal is to make physical objects. Fabrication is integrated into all our design phases.
We have years of experience with subtractive, additive and neutral digital fabrication.
Digital methods can take projects to results not previously not achievable
The digital is not all – we still need to assemble, to polish, to coat, and so forth, by hand. And above all, we need to understand and communicate.
Subtractive fabrication
is to remove or cut material from an existing shape. It is a robotic version of the sculptor’s chisel, mostly known as CNC-milling.
We have a long experience using this technique and have made designs from wood, plastics and metal. However, the products are seldom finished only by CNC-milling, we almost always need to treat the surface in some way, using coating methods or polishing.

Additive fabrication
is to add material, widely referred to as 3d-printing.
The quality of 3d-printing is debatable. The best materials are certainly metals which however is expensive to use. The plastic materials available don’t always meet the consumer’s demands. For us, 3d-printed objects have huge advantages as positive molds for casting or prototypes. The technology enables the creation of very complex geometry.

Neutral fabrication
is to bend or transform an existing piece of material, often referred to as CNC-bending.
Neutral fabrication machines can bend metal sheets and rods/pipes. We have made a series of experiments with rods and pipe bending. There are a few machines that can bend based on complex, free-form NURBS-curves. The production is both fast and relatively inexpensive which opens up for great ideas to be realised.

When creating digital geometry, our goal is to create a physical product.
Material and production awareness is integrated already in the first design phases.
The digital is not all – we still need to assemble, to polish, to coat, and so forth. We have a vast network of professional manufacturers and craftsmen.
