Making clouds
Images of a simulated "fake" sky.
In his studio, Fredrik Skåtar set up a three-dimensional collage from various foils, back-drops and spotlights. By shaping smoke and fog, the aim is to create cloud formations and capturing them with the camera. The project was funded by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden) in 2008.

Wave table 02
Wave table 02 is made of acrylic glass through which objects visually seem to be under water. A prismatic effect occurs and changes depending on the angle of incidence. The table is a part of the project "From animation to sculpture" which was funded by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden) in 2010.

Jøssingfjord competition
Proposal for museum of cultural heritage in Jøssingfjord, Norway 2011. The site is located in a valley of nearly vertical mountains and the aim of the design was to emphasize this unique landscape. Large windows are directed towards selected views, creating a framed image of the immense rocks which are present in all parts of the building. The plan drawing is a rigid grid, from which the windows are extruded and twisted, resulting in a contrast between straight and organic shapes.
Serlachius competition
Proposal (2011)for museum extension on the peninsula in lake Kuorevesi, Mänttää, Finland.
Net floor area: 3000 m², Gross floor area 4700 m².
Extension to the existing museum building which will contain the art collection of the Serlachius family, temporary exhibiton spaces, a café, library, archives, offices, storage rooms, and an art conservatory space. All exhibiton spaces have large roof windows only letting in light from the north. A connection to the old building also serves as main entrance and leads directly into the
assembly hall, the building’s heart. From there, the visitor walks on a slight slope, following the
landscape, to reach all services of the new building.
The goal is to create a visual connection between the park and all spaces within the building
with the exception of the exhibitions that are solid rectangular blocks, contrasting to the organic
structure in which they stand as islands.
Scaffolding pavilion
Proposal (2011)for temporary structure from "found items" on Governor's Island, New York, -a competition by the Figment Project.
Geosphere icosadodecahedron made entirely from standard scaffolding parts.
In the dome’s ceiling, tarpaulins are stretched to create cover from rain and sun.
By there horizontal (but yet leaning) positioning, they make a visual contrast to the spherical construction.

*Stockholm is a multi-cultural city and the majority of the immigrants come from the middle east.
An Arabic Cultural Institute is a good proposition for integration and its role-model is the corresponding building in Paris. The ACI-Stockholm is situated in Kronobergsparken in Stockholm, Sweden.
The architecture for such a building is, in this proposition, based on the concept of mixing the arabic style with the western, european style. A very strong detail in the arab world is the pattern and in this project the pattern have become 3-dimensional and given a constructional function. A cubic mesh seem solid like the relique of Kaba in a distance but from a close distance it oppens up and makes the visitor see through the building. An ever-changing pattern appears when moving in the building since the mesh is built from different layers.
The ACIS is an arabic-swedish pattern machine.
The structure contains an auditorium, a library, a mediateque, prayer’s room, restaurant, living spaces. Below ground-level it is shaped to fit next to the tunnel underneath the park.
Advertising thin glasswalls are placed around the building, imitating its interior.
This design was exhibited at the Mediterranean Museum [Medelhavsmuseet] in Stockholm, summer of 2003
*bathing facility, gustavsberg, sweden
This project is situated in Gustavsberg outside Stockholm in Sweden. The main concept was to create shapes and volumes that could have been sculpted by water. It’s a cave-like structure with no straight lines anywhere except for the many pillars. All pillars, that look almost like stalactites and stalagmites, are not structurally necessary.
They’re there to emphasize the concept and to connect the building to the thick adjacent forest.
This building’s main function is to be a relaxation resort rather than a traditional swimming facility. The latter building-type requires special pool-dimensions. In this case the building has specially designed pools with different features
*Kalmar Konsthall / Kalmar Art Museum is a proposition for a new art museum in Kalmar, Sweden.
The building is situated in the city park and is an extension of the existing restaurant.
The concept of the bulding is to be open to the park on the ground level with glassed facades in all directions. The visitor is able to enter the bulding on all three sides. The exhibition is elevated and kept in a solid white box which also contains a route to the existing restaurant.
This project is concentrated at creating simplicity in design and creating a daylighted exhibition. The latter is the result of a broad investigation and series of tests and studies involving large models with different kinds of ceilings to let light in.
The yellow route (the yellow colour is temporary and indicates that the surface should be able to change) is also a sculpture gallery, taking in light from the north, east and south. Unlike the main exhibition space, the impression of the exhibited 3-dimensional artworks willl change during the day since light and time will give these items different shadows and highlights.
*MEK - Museum Europäischer Kulturen - Museum for European Culture
Kulturforum is situated between the former West- and East-Berlin and next to Potsdamer Platz, Berlin’s new center. In “Kulturforum” you’ll find different cultural functions such as: Scharoun’s Philharmonical and his library, Hillmer & Sattler’s Gemäldegalerie and Mies’ Neue Nationalgalerie.
This proposition shows a museum for european culture. The concept for this museum is to create a journey through Europe and structurally this is realized through a spiral-shaped building. The spiral starts from the entrance and folds back to the path at the top. The visitor is in this way taken through the cultures and the history of Europe and at the top a panorama of today’s Europe is presented: The city of Berlin.
*café voyager is a proposition for a new café on Kägelbanan at Södra Teatern (South Theatre) in Stockholm, Sweden. The vast view dominates the site and one feels almost like being on top of the city. The idea is based on the concept of flying. The info-flyer, always to be found in the seat in front of you when on board, shows escape routs and other instructions. The café mimics this by having a green-lit route in the café’s floor, from the entrance disappearing dramatically in the vast view. The walls of the café diverges fom a point at the horizon, creating a stronger perspective which enhances the movement towards the view. There are no perpendicular joints between wall/floor/ceiling in the café making the surfaces float in space. The joints are replaced with gaps that are lit from the inside with the same green light as in the floor’s “escape route”. This green light is also in the surfaces of all tables and on the counter’s horizontal shelf.
Behind the counter there is a large picture showing the points from where satellites are launched. The café is a vessel ready for “TAKE OFF”. The red and green lights in the building’s back, are blinking randomly, indicating that the voyage is about to start...
